There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect location, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of many borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel compound that contains a number of comforts in addition to the casino, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
